Riley Gorden, MB(ASCP)CM is the director and founder of Gorden Analytical Laboratory (GAL). GAL is a scientifically-driven think tank headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Gorden's undergraduate studies took place at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, where he was named a prestigious Adam W. Herbert scholar upon admission. As a biology major, key extracurricular experiences included an academic research laboratory apprenticeship and subsequent internship where his work contributed to the publication of two articles in peer reviewed academic journals. He also succeeded in his studies in public safety management, earning a minor in the field to complement his scientific studies.
Gorden graduated with distinction in May 2020 and briefly studied at the Indiana University School of Medicine with interests in practicing as a physician. Although he ultimately decided to part ways with the program prior to graduation, he developed a lasting interest in health care and continues to work in the industry as a medical laboratory scientist.
As an American Society for Clinical Pathology-certified molecular biologist, Riley has expertise in molecular laboratory techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, reverse-transcription, real-time PCR, capillary electrophoresis, and melt-curve analysis. He has presented his work at the Association for Molecular Pathology Annual Meeting (2023), an international conference for molecular pathology professionals.
Riley has a personal interest in developing solutions that make meaningful impact on populations that may face barriers to accessing health care. This interest especially apparent with his former volunteer work with the Trevor Project, an organization at the forefront of studying the intersectionality of mental health care and the LGBTQ+ community.
In his free time Gorden enjoys working out, tending to his Desert Rose bonsai, and trying new Indianapolis restaurants.
